Oliver Andre Rosto – A Life Dedicated to Aviation

The Norse-American aviator Oliver Andre Rosto (1881-1972) was the first Norwegian to design, construct and fly a monoplane. The first flight of this monoplane (later christened “Duluth No 1″) was on February 26, 1913 from the ice of Lake Superior at Duluth, Minesota, USA. After this flight Oliver Andre Rosto was mainly active in the world aviation and worked as inspector for the Curtiss Aeroplane & Engine Factory in the USA, for Ericson Aircraft Ltd. in Baltimore and from 1928 to 1952 for the Civil Aeronautic Authority. At the age of 71 he started to work for Transocean Air Lines and its subsidiary the Aircraft Engineering & Maintenance Company – AEMCO.

Den norskamerikanske flyveren Oliver Andre Rosto (1881-1872) var den første nordmannen som designet, bygde og fløy et monoplan. Den 26. februar 1913 gjennomførte han med dette monoplanet (senere døpt til ”Duluth No 1”) sin første flytur. Han startet fra isen på Lake Superior ved Duluth, Minnesota, USA. Etter denne flyvningen fant Oliver Andre Rosto nesten utelukkende arbeid innen luftfart og han jobbet da blant annet som inspektør ved Curtiss Aeroplane & Engine Factory i USA, for Ericson Aircraft Ltd. i Baltimore og fra 1928 til 1952 for Civil Aeronautic Authority. På en alder av 71 begynte han å jobbe for Transocean Air Lines og dets datterselskap Aircraft Engineering & Maintenance Company – AEMCO.
